Salt.

Salt.

Oceans cover about 70% of the earth’s surface and carry a compound that was once used as currency, adds flavor, preserves food and helps maintain balance in the body. It’s called salt and this is the short list of its uses. I’m not the only one who’s used salt to make a point about what brings meaning to our travel on this planet. Jonathon had been telling me week after week how he felt like a tiny speck floating in a sea of chaos and discord, unable to change the tide in his life or make a difference in the lives of others. He explained how he couldn’t stop himself from readily absorbing all the pain in this world and how he felt hopeless about so much of what he was seeing and his ability to create a positive change. As we dug a little deeper, I learned that as a kid, Jonathon grew up in a house filled with chaos and recalls trying in a kid-like-way to change things but, nothing he tried to do made things anything any better. So, he made himself smaller. He learned that in smallness, he felt safer. But as he shrank into a tiny speck, his belief in his effectiveness as a single human making his way in this world shrank too. We started by recognizing it’s never a child’s job to make things right in the lives of the adults around them nor would a child ever be able to do so. I understood why he stayed tiny and under the radar. However, another way of thinking about the true effectiveness of a single speck needed to be added to Jonathon’s repertoire of beliefs. And unearthing the deep-rooted belief that a single speck lacks agency and value needed to be called out on its shit. That’s how we got talking about salt.

A speck of anything, a single movement in thought, behavior or in the atmosphere can change everything. Jonathon worked hard to start taking notice of this. We recalled together how a meal without enough salt lacks flavor and doesn’t bring a whole lot of excitement to your taste buds. Add just add a pinch of specks called salt and everything changes in that simple meal. I don’t know exactly how or why it changes, I just know it does. I know it gives savory more depth and a few specks can make sweet a touch sweeter. Because of salt, it’s a lot more fun to eat. A tiny pinch of salt has significance because of the huge impact it may have on the overall creation of a delicious meal from start to finish. To be one person in a movement for positive change is how we start to shift the tide and get us all to a better place – whether it be an individual thought, a couple, a family, a neighborhood or a community. To be one speck in a pinch of a few, changes bland to tasty and to be one speck in a group of a few can move us from to despair to hopefulness. Noticing just one spectacular sunrise after a spell of darkness transports us to where hope hangs out with wonder. And being present in that tiny, singular miracle adds just enough to lift to lead us to a better place.

It took some time for Jonathon to see the power found in a speck of something. And that made sense considering what he carried and the harm imposed on him as a child. He was finding success in making small, singular changes in his thinking, responses and behaviors and that was making a difference in his overall belief in all he can do in this world. There’s a lot to learn from the power of trashing a speck of something and adding a speck of something else to bring about healthy life changes. Stopping to dig that one small pebble out of my sneaker and tossing it makes my morning walk a lot better. Adding the intention of being present with what’s right now and what I’m able to do with what’s right before me, can also make my walk a lot better too. While the weight of the world gets heavy sometimes, I rarely find agreement in the sentiment that a single movement in my thoughts or actions can’t make a difference because, I’ve lived long enough to know it does. Our effectiveness and value isn’t always measured in the big changes we bring about, but the collection of individual ways we make a difference every day in our own lives and the lives of others. The times we show up, the hard things we do, the beautiful thing we witness, the pain we overcome and the moment of compassion we extend to another add meaning to our lives and the lives of others. The simple act of adding salt to something has the power to preserve, heal, keep things afloat, help draw out impurities and make it all taste so much better. You are that much needed salt that can change things for the better if you choose to do so.

Maybe you need to find respite from this world sometimes by taking a break and staying small. That’s okay. Just don’t stay small for too long or it may become hard to find your saltiness again. When you emerge, take it one step at time, one page at a time and one grain at a time creating a collection of moments that have the power to change everything starting with the single speck of you. The real, messy and beautiful speck of you is just the salt we all need.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. When have you felt like “a speck floating in a sea of chaos”? What was going on in that moment? What may have led you to believe that you have little value and no chance of bringing about change?
  2. When have you felt like an important, valuable, single grain in a group of other grains? What was going on in that moment? How did your thinking and experience reinforce the belief that you have value and agency?
  3. Recall an experience where one, small thing made a difference to you or those around you. Was it a shift in your perspective, something you noticed or something you did? What happened?
  4. What is the pebble in your shoe that you need to remove right now to make your walk a little better?
  5. What is one small shift in your thinking that could make a difference in how you view yourself and all you are capable of doing?
Thank you.

Thank you.

In my line of work, I spend a lot of time reminding folks that they have worth just for being born. Period. What moves us away from that knowing are the messages and experiences we encounter that make it hard to see that truth. That light of truth gets covered by blankets of darkness made up of lies and pain caused by hurt and trauma. I’m a witness and guide for people trying to find their way back to their light. It gets hard to watch someone navigate their way through the thorny and painful barriers that keep them away from the most valuable thing inside them – self love. But, it’s the only way to untangle and cut through the vines. I’ll stay witness to their solo endeavor and support them in their search for their truth. I’ll hear them and see them as they bravely claw through this pain and try their best to make it back to who they really are. I’ll remind these searchers of their courage, grit and strength proven factual because they’re sitting before me and asking for help. As they scrape, scrap and dig bare-handed to uncover their light, I’ll remind them of another fact too- they can do terrifically, hard things because they’ve done it before and here they stand. And I thank them for allowing me to stand beside them and offer me a bird’s eye view of what the human spirit can accomplish in the name of love.

I roll in the joy that pours from a seeker’s body when they’ve found their way home and back to their light. The air in the room changes because heaven celebrates at that very moment too. The frequency created by the love that rains from the sky cannot be contained and the room tingles with truth and possibility. I’m always filled with gratitude when I witness this rebirth and another’s brave attempt to try again a little smarter and a little wiser gleaned only through hard work and struggle. I’m filled with a million thank-yous for the opportunity to see an awakening and watch someone start again. It’s a reminder to us both to hold on tightly to our light of truth because our lives depend on it. That light is the most important compass and lantern we’ll ever own to keep us from getting lost from ourselves again.

Staying close to your truth is a life-long endeavor and you have to pay attention. It can be tricky sometimes. It means that you do your best to stay aware and on guard in terms of what you let in and accept and what you put out. So, how do we stay close to our truth? By reminding ourselves of who we really are and doing so a lot. What follows the word “I” matters. If they’re words that remind you of your gifts and create a sense of purpose, keep on saying them! If they’re anything close to affirming that no matter what mistakes you make, you still have value and will always be a beloved child of God, then repeat them daily. If they’re words of encouragement, honor and self-compassion, then say them often to help you hold on when needed. And when words of kindness and love are spoken to you from another, drink them up with humbleness and gratitude. Pushing away heart-felt words of appreciation for who you are is not being humble, it just means you need to work on becoming more comfortable holding your truth in your hands. So, just say “Thanks.” Because, when you just say “Thanks”, you acknowledge who you are, the good you’ve done and it keeps you going. Remembering all the wonderful things you have the potential to do in the everyday moments will always keep you close to your light. And living out your truth will always be enough to keep that light shining. So, “Thanks!” for being you and doing the best you can to make this world brighter and your life more meaningful by sticking by your own light and fighting to never let it go.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. What did it require of you to seek out your truth when you were removed from it?
  2. What keeps you from noticing all you are capable of doing?
  3. When have you experienced a shift in the “frequency” of a room based on the experience playing out in that room?
  4. When you witness someone else rebuild their life and find their light again how does that affect you and why?
  5. Saying “Thanks” indicates acknowledgment and appreciation. Why do we sometimes deflect or push away the heart-felt compliments of another?
Rise and shine.

Rise and shine.

The sun doesn’t race its way out into the sky every morning hell bent on being the first one awake. It’s a paced, steady, slow process. No matter how loudly we complain about the sun being hidden away by clouds, she breaks through into full majesty in her own way. If you watch her ascension closely enough, the sun’s colors change in and around her as she takes on the process of rising. That means there’s much going on inside and outside the sun’s being. She’s not affected by the inpatient and fast-paced wants of those who suggest she move quicker or take a different path. The sun would never alter her grand entrance and give up her “ta-da” moment for anyone. She knows that if the world just lets her be, she will gracefully emerge whole and bright with a power to shine gloriously on everything around her. If the frantic could just slow down and relax, then maybe she’d have an easier time shining brightly with dazzling colors illuminating from her own light. The sun needs to follow it’s own process because if not, life on this planet would be so different and not nearly as beautiful.

Take a tip from the sun and slow down. Some answers or next steps don’t come that quickly and require discernment and a look around. Letting the process of your life unfold in a steady manner may leave you feeling like an outlier. You may have been told that if you don’t have a concrete plan that keeps you powerwalking 24/7 or don’t require a post it note to remind yourself to pee, your life will be a mess. They’re wrong. Oh the sun has a plan. She just lays it out on her time using her methods and inner-knowing. She keeps it moving, trusts herself and the universe. She knows the clouds will eventually fade away or knows that she’ll find a way to put out more life-giving light to evaporate what hinders her from shining. The process of the sun rising is the sun’s business and no one else’s. She’s the best one for the job because she works everyday trying to get it right. The sun follows her own path and that keeps her grounded in the universe despite what’s orbiting around her. As she lives out her purpose in the sky, her dazzling light beams radiate all the energy inside her and she openly shares with those willing to bathe in her colors. The sun doesn’t let anyone stop her from her own revolution. She has the answers to what’s right for her deep inside her core every step of the way. It’s never a good idea to rush through the magical moments of a sunrise. You miss a lot of your journey if you’re only focusing on the ending all the time. You miss a lot of wonder and never glean the wisdom found in every step of your rising.

Figuring out what keeps you from finding your place in the universe is your job. Begin with stopping the voices in your head that tell you it’s not possible. The power of our own words affect the amount of light you put out into the world. Every time you practice self-compassion, you feed the light inside you which is always waiting to radiate. When you speak words of love to yourself, the authentic you has a much better chance of busting out because it’s being fed energy that’s pure and life-affirming. Words of kindness, compassion, understanding and love is rocket fuel for your heart and confidence. That energy helps you stand strongly in who you are and the choices you make. This is how you stay on course with your life’s path even when that road gets rocky and rough. That energy of love helps to drown out the voices and expectations placed on you by the world or the unrealistic ones we sometimes create ourselves. Words of self-compassion and love remind us that every step of this journey is important because this is how you learn, grow and shine brighter. Some steps hurt. But self-compassion manifested from your own soul, using your own voice keeps you rising and shining when you don’t get it from others. Live each moment like it matters understanding that your growth and wisdom add beautiful colors to each step of the journey. Own your light and its impact. Notice how the colors change as you rise, each presenting itself to the world with a uniqueness that is spectacular because it’s yours. Invest in your way of doing things with self-compassion to keep you grounded and moving at a reasonable pace. The world needs your light all the time despite how dimly it shines sometimes. Your light is a life-force and a necessity to this planet. Do your best to take care of it, listen to it, feed it what it needs, shine it brightly at your pace and rise. The sun is a star after all.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. How have the expectations of others affected your ability to follow your own path?
  2. What can you learn from slowing down your pace? How might you begin to focus on each step of your journey?
  3. Do you feel you carry many of life’s answers deep inside your core? Why/why not? What keeps you from hearing their calling?
  4. Do you regularly practice self-compassion? Why/why not?
  5. What mindset or thoughts would you like to manifest which will propel you to shine?

You matter.

You matter.

You matter and that’s all that matters.  That may sound like a selfish sentiment, but it’s not.  Your effectiveness in this world and the amount of love you put out is dependent on you knowing your value.  What grows from feeling, seeing and knowing in your heart that you matter are miracles.  A seed planted in the ground breaks through soil and sometimes seeks out cracks in concrete to find its way to the sun.  This seedling will twist, turn and bend in search of sunlight to thrive and make more of itself because it knows what it is meant to do.  It is here to become part of an interdependent system that includes sharing its beauty and helping other species reveal their beauty as well.  That seedling sees its value in the garden of life from the moment it breaks out of its shell casing until the end of its time here on earth.  And even when it withers into the soil, it still leaves some of the best of itself around to help the next seedlings thrive.  Its life from beginning to end mattered.

You matter because you were created by the Divine.  The Divine poured love into your cup of light and handed it off to the angels who ushered you into this world.  The angels carried your love-filled spirit on their wings and followed the beacon of light emanating from the Divine and leading into the home of you.  Once they delivered your spirit, they danced, twirled and celebrated your spirit’s arrival into human flesh.  They partied because of all they know about what is possible within you.  They believe in miracles and your place in this magic.  These angels will always celebrate the majesty of you because you matter.  Even if the humans responsible for your care didn’t see the value of your light, the angels always will.  Every time you struggle to find your way, deal with pain and seek out why you matter, the Divine’s team will carry you when you are beaten down and care for you when you heal.  Look around you for what the angels have placed on your path to keep you going.  They are busy dropping hope packages in your space because you matter.  When you know that, you will fight for you, seek out why you are here and come in direct alignment with the gifts that were placed in your heart.  You will no longer always be traveling against a current and up a river that was never meant for you.  When you discover even a drop of your purpose, you will feel the ease of what it is like to flow with the current that is your life.  This current carries the treasure of you and leads you to the ocean of humanity filled with all the other brave souls living out their value, their purpose. This is how we create harmony and a world more like our original home.  You matter because creating a world with more love and modeled after heaven is the only thing that matters.

You matter because kindness and compassion matter.  You have the ability to change a moment for the better by exercising the best part of you.  Decide what keeps you from sharing kindness and compassion with others.  And think long and hard about what keeps you from being kind and compassionate with yourself.  When you know you matter, you feel ok about making mistakes and holding yourself accountable.  You recognize the human in you and the human in others.  You know that messing up, dusting off and making things right as best as you are able is a sign of courage and the only way to grow.  If you matter, the voice you create in your head will remind you of your worth, your bravery and all that you are capable of doing.  It will help move you along because staying in one place may feel safe or serve you in some way, but it’s not for those who want relationships that have meaning.  Kindness and compassion start with being kind and compassionate with yourself.  The bandages you place on your own broken heart teach you the importance of sharing those bandages with others.  Sharing love starts with having self-love.  Because you matter, you will choose to feed your light so you have enough to share with others.  Kindness has the ability to multiply.  If you have it to give, you have the ability to make a big difference.   You matter and sometimes that is all that really matters.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. At this moment in time, do you feel as though you matter?  Why or why not?
  2. What does “flowing” mean to you as it relates to your purpose?
  3. How has the kindness or compassion of another affected you or made a difference in your life?
  4. How does accountability indicate that you matter?
  5. Do you see self-love as being selfish?  Why or why not?

Fill your cup.

Fill your cup.

You were born with a cup of light housed deep inside you filled to the brim. The light is comprised of your all knowing, love and your authentic self. It is this light that guides you, affirms you and acts as your foundation. The light spills into every cell of your body to enliven you and coax you to become. It moves you to be you. It feeds you knowledge, compassion, courage, acceptance and love. The light keeps you aligned with your spirit. The light reminds you of your purpose and lives to move you to that next place. It is the lantern you use, which sends out the light you need to find your way. As you can imagine, your cup of light is a pretty big deal.

When our cup is full, we know it. There’s a feeling of contentment and ease. We are less negatively affected by all the external distractions that steer us off course. We feel committed to our path, our cause and align ourselves readily with the light of others. When we are full, we have no problem sharing our light with others. We know there is enough for everyone and therefore don’t worry about lack. If aligned with the Divine and our authentic selves, we have faith that our cup of light will always be with us and never run out. It may get low, it may get drained sometimes by the darkness of others, but the light does not completely vanish. All it takes is a trickle of light to erode whatever dam hinders our ability to fill our cup again. Be open to receiving a trickle of light from the Divine, nature or another cup of light holder. Don’t run from light, pour it in your cup.

It is up to us to keep our cup full so we have enough sustenance for our journey and enough light to sprinkle on others. Sharing from your cup helps add to your stash. When you light another candle by using your light, the room gets brighter. It’s magic. But giving away too much and not re-filling, leaves your cup empty. In this state, you’re out of fuel, stagnant, depressed and weary. It’s hard to find yourself when your cup’s low because when there’s little light, there’s little life. When you are empty and lost to yourself with little light to illuminate the way, connecting with others is super hard too. You can’t share what you don’t have. The world will continue to try and draw from your cup and not give you time to replenish if you let it. You were never meant to live unprotected and without light. Guard your light like your life depends on it because it does.

When our cup overflows, that’s joy. It pours all over the floor and soaks into everything around it. Decide what brings you joy and chase after it with a large net. Not only do we put out a ton of light when we’re in joy, it’s so much easier to see what is beautiful, wise and worthy when we feel joyous. This same light also teaches us what we need to do to fill up again. It may mean we need to be in solace, strengthen our boundaries, eat better, pray, socialize, exercise more, learn, disengage, self-advocate, sleep or create. We fill our cup when we know that all we can do is try our best to do our best. And that will always be enough. We fill our cups when we fight for the rights of others and their right to carry their own cup of light and shine brightly. We replenish so we have the strength to shine light on the ugly and bring it out of the darkness. If we want more light in the world, we have to dismantle what keeps it from others.

It may deplete me some when I muster courage, take chances, speak up and feel like the only candle in a room. But I know what to do to replenish. Sometimes it takes a while to fill my cup again. Sometimes I don’t want to do what I need to do and give from my cup because it can hurt and make me weary. But if I do not use what the the Divine has given me and hoard my light, then I give up on life. Fill your cup, share your light and trust that the Divine is always right there doling out a continuous pour of love just for you.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. Think of a time when you felt moved by something within YOU? What happened? What did it feel like? Where did that movement take you?
  2. Recall a time when you ran from receiving someone else’s light. Why? What did you believe about being more open to love or light at that time?
  3. What does it feel like to you when you have given too much of yourself away? Note the warning signs reminding you to stop the drain and set the intention to listen.
  4. Why would some people keep others from shining their light?
  5. Do you trust that there is enough love and light for everyone? Why or why not?

Your person.

Your person.

Who was “your person”? Who was your mentor, your supporter or the one who really heard you? Our days consist of swimming through a sea of people and encounters and it often feels like a big blur sometimes. But in all that murk, who caught your eye? Who reflected the light of the Divine and glowed making you stop, look and listen? Who drew you in, gave you center stage and made you feel like you matter despite the world telling you otherwise? The encounter with your person or people may have been short-lived or still on-going, but you know for sure that knowing them changed you.

We all have the ability to be that person for someone else but it does take some work. It requires that you dive completely into your humanity and double down on your strengths. It means you work on your self-awareness to learn about your inherent strengths and leave them on display to share with the world. When we lead with our gifts, people notice and we feels things flow. It feels good and it feels right. We draw in those who need us at that moment in time when we lead with the best part or ourselves. We’re not frightened or worrying about wearing a mask to hide ourselves. We shimmer with a magnetic force that sparkles with all of our beauty and understanding. We’re not over-thinking, we’re just being. We’re in our natural state that was most evident the day we were born when people picked us up and just marveled at our state of being, fresh from heaven. This is why babies are the world’s most perfect mentors because they lead with their strengths – wonder, hope, innocence and love.

Who taught you that we need each other and that our differences in abilities and challenges perfectly compliment one another? If you want to continue this lesson, then strive to understand how the pieces of the human puzzle fit together. Do so by slowing down and listening. Start by taking the time to sit in silence long enough to hear the internal voice inside you that lives deep below the surface where the water is clear, still and safe from the world’s intrusions. When we regularly practice listening to our own inner voice, we get really good at listening to the voices of others. You can’t grab a hold of someone else’s voice if you’re hands are full of things like your ego, fear and righteousness. You have to put that stuff down to truly listen and honor someone else’s story without judgement. It is a practice that requires introspection and patience. Your person was probably a master at this lesson.

People who make a difference aren’t shy with their gifts. They stay present, loving, giving and sensible. They glow with the light of just being when doing what they do best. They encourage others to take off their masks so we can all glow too. They work with challenges, get knocked down but see no choice but to rise again. They exude joy when others overcome and find pleasure in life’s simple gifts. They take care of themselves and take care of others. They listen to the ones they care for by asking more questions than giving answers. They brush back your hair when you’re too sad to hold up your own face and match their breath with yours to help you slow down. They share their chocolate cake, put a hand on your back and remind you of your worth. They lead with the best part of their humanity by laughing, crying, loving and listening. If we all have the capacity to exude our humanity, don’t we all have the capacity to be “that person” for someone else? What a powerful question to ponder with implications that could make an amazing, meaningful difference in the life of another. Oh…and sharing a good piece of chocolate cake with someone makes a big difference too.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. Who was that person that made you feel heard and supported? What do you remember most about them?
  2. In order to lead with your strengths, it’s important to become self-aware. How do you work on self-awareness?
  3. What are some of your strengths? Do you regularly use your gifts and how do you know you are doing so?
  4. Do you see value in taking the time to slow down and listen to your inner voice? Why or why not? Monitor how well you really listen to yourself and others without judgement. What occurs when you do well at this practice?
  5. What do you see as the best part of “your person’s” humanity that has made a big difference in your life? Do you see yourself sharing that with others? Why/why not?
Teach with your life.

Teach with your life.

We are all teachers.  If we truly embraced this role, then we’d wholly embrace all of ourselves.  We’d know that leading with our strengths and sharing those gifts with others is what we were meant to do.  We would believe in ourselves, our worth, our knowledge, our wisdom and understand why we are in this classroom of life.  We would see the beauty of awakening every day knowing we get another opportunity to hone our gifts and use them to teach others about the value of individual knowing.  We would monitor and adjust our lessons by tweaking our talents and approaches so more people feel inspired to learn, grow, understand and feel accepted in the class we offer.  We’d be less afraid of failure and be proud to model the virtue of humbleness because it connects us with our students.  Everyone relates to making mistakes and the courage it takes to try and make things right.  Failure is part of learning.  Teachers know that students have to make mistakes to find their answers in a space where falling is embraced.  It’s why good teachers give out pencils with erasers.

Exercise your skills daily so you remain firmly planted in what you do well.  Embrace all of you and stay disciplined in feeding your own soul and filling your own cup so you have what it takes to share yourself with others.  The world needs all of you to teach us what springs forth from your light. You’re going to need the energy to keep up with the demand.  Be resistant to those who say you are too young, too old, not experienced enough or that your thinking is all wrong.  Just remember what you teach is about making things right based on your experiences and how you see the world.  There is immense value in teaching your truth to those students willing to listen and learn.  At the very least, those not willing to participate in your lesson can’t escape you modeling courage.  Those students who pick up on your lesson and witness you being brave, just earned extra credit points.

Don’t be diverted by unruly students or class clowns.  Give them their opportunity to participate in show and tell too.  Just stay true to your lesson at hand and keep at it. Those who pay attention will experience your story and get inspired by the homework you provide.  The enthusiastic will get excited by all the new learning and revel in the new bridges you helped create in their brains.  Hopefully, their excitement and the acceptance they feel in the classroom will rub off on those who aren’t there yet.  Nonetheless, feel proud about what you taught and how that positively influenced your students.  This is what drives you to get up each day and repeat the process again.  It can be tiring so take advantage of your vacation time.

In forests, old, wise trees tumble to the earth or give up parts of themselves every day.  They shed their prized possessions so their DNA can spill onto the ground and do their thing.  They fertilize the soil so new seeds get some help springing up from the dirt so they can become teachers too.  This is why it’s important to keep your unique gifts dusted off and easily available while maintaining a firm grip on what you know to be true.  Teach with your life by being bravely authentic, sharing your strengths, making mistakes, growing towards the light and embracing the differences in your classroom.  Do it by word, by example, by action, by integrity, by faith and by love. Graft all these things to who you are for they are the branches that grow from your light.  Always remember your students are watching and don’t forget your number two pencils outfitted with decent erasers.  You’ll need them to encourage sharing, making mistakes and sharpening our gifts to let the world in on what we know.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. What are your strengths? Do you regularly lead with them? Why or why not?
  2. When you live what you do well, people (aka your students) notice. What might people take notice of when it comes to your skills? How do you hone them?
  3. You have to fill your own cup to share your gifts with others. How do you do so? What feeds your soul?
  4. Have you ever been made to feel you’re not experienced enough to offer your insight? How did that feel? How did you react? What would you have done differently?
  5. How has what you know taught something of value to someone else? Do you see the ripple effect that occurred by you sharing your truth, skills or light? Why or why not?
Energy and miracles.

Energy and miracles.

Expect miracles. They are all around us. To notice them, we need to attract them. Miracles will dance around lit candles even when the candle doesn’t burn brightly. The fire just burns, staying lit and putting out an energy that says, “Here I am.” The energy draws notice and is a stark contrast to the darkness. It is simple but powerful – a light that pulls life forces towards it and invites curiosity, engagement and a sense of serenity. When we witness this light, we feel spellbound by the flame, the light. It’s why people love to sit and watch a fire. It’s beautiful and brings contemplation, quietness and peace. In this moment we think, beckon for answers and dream. When our own energy exudes our fire, our light, we too pull life towards us and we invite what we long for: connection, love, the light of others and miracles.

Think about your energy from time to time. When we are not always able to maintain a steady flow of optimism, figure out what’s going on and do something to reignite your light. Is it rest or time alone? Is it a walk? Is it a creative endeavor? A talk with a friend? Thinking about ways to take care of your body? Helping someone? A fall to your knees to pray? When your fire diminishes, it’s the Divine’s way of saying, “Suit up and show up in your own life.” Do something to replenish your light, even if it’s just doing the next thing. Sustaining negative energy diminishes your light and your reserves. Energy minus energy equals less energy. Take whatever you’ve got to move in a better direction. People will feel it and see it, evoking inspiration in yourself and others. Inspiring energy is powerful enough to light up the world.

Energy pushes and pulls. Loving, hopeful, positive energy connects you with all living creatures. It pulls in a sense of gratitude, love, people who need healing, people and opportunities meant to replenish you – miracles. An energy that exudes your light has the power to spark a fire in another and push away those things that do not serve us. It’s an energy that has the ability to feed the troubled soul of another and enough power to eradicate the negativity that clings to the walls. The sustained energy of neediness, envy, anger, fear and hate pushes away what is needed – honesty, miracles and deep, lasting connection. Negative energy may pull sometimes too. It just pulls in more negativity.

Do the next thing needed to change your energy to pull in what you need and push away what you don’t. Start with the spark in you, stay loving of yourself and others despite the negative force field that may surround you. Try your best to leave a trail of light wherever you go and don’t waste time or energy fostering the negative. Loving, optimistic energy will always invite more miracles and produce enough light to lead you and others where they need to go.

Questions/activities to ponder or good journal prompts!

  1. Have you ever thought about your energy? Why or why not?
  2. Negative energy pushes people away and that may include pushing yourself away from your own light. Think of a time when you did that. What do you remember?
  3. Show up in your own life. Do you believe your energy has the ability to pull in all you desire? Why or why not?
  4. Can you feel the energy in a room, a person or any living being? If so, observe and take note of how that energy affects you.
  5. Understanding who you are and what you need is important to replenishing your light. Make a list please.
